Position Summary

The Organic Analytical Laboratory (OAL) at the Desert Research Institute in Reno, NV is looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow in the area of analytical method development for biomarkers associated with exposure to air pollutants and non-traditional tobacco product use. This position will be fully supported and is expected to play a major role in analytical method development, participating in research projects, and reporting the main findings in journal articles and at research conferences. A collaborative multi-disciplinary research team will help support this positon and provide training and mentorship opportunities. Given satisfactory performance, and proven ability to generate research funding, it is anticipated that this position will evolve into a regular research faculty position.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. from an accredited institution in bioorganic chemistry, chemical biology or a closely related field
  • Experience with biomarker characterization techniques using LC-MS and ELISA, or similar techniques, and biomarker assay development.
  • Evidence of the ability to participate in and coordinate collaborative research
  • Ability to develop research proposals and participate in grant writing
  • Ability to work independently to fulfill project goals and meet project deadlines
  • Ability to effectively analyze and report research findings to sponsors, at conferences, and during professional meetings, and the ability to publish peer reviewed journal articles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in handling biological fluids, cell cultures, and cell-based toxicology assays.
  • First-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Conditions of Employment / Physical Requirements
  • This position requires the ability to work in an organic analytical laboratory, and the ability to work with toxic chemicals and lift heavy objects of up to 20 lbs.
  • The individual who is offered and accepts this position must provide, within 30 working days of his/her start date, a copy of the transcript(s) of the highest degree he/she has acquired, as awarded by an accredited institute as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Salary Information

Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications, with continued appointment (assessed annually for up to a maximum of three years) being dependent upon performance and availability of funding.
